INTRODUCTION

In a vast empty sky a condor soars over red earth mountains scattered with cacti.
Below, the rhythm of running water, at times a gentle stream at others a fierce river.
On the surface dancing reflections cast shimmering shadows creating honey comb patterns and molten shapes. Through the crystal water, animated by this performance of light and movement, a carved stone comes to life.
This is Bolivia. Just one of the remote inspiring landscapes where Colin Duncan makes his art: Carved Stone Photographs.

In paintings, Colin Duncan gets his inspiration by looking at the details that make up the unity of things and by doing so presents a new interpretation and experience that makes up the whole.
Whether this is the play of light on the surface of rock pools as in the series ‘Shallow Water Runs Deep’, differing attitudes and poses in the nudes of ‘After the Sun’, the organic forms from ‘In My Nature’ or the pieces of graffiti in ‘Urban Landscapes’.

Colin Duncan, born in Malta, is a Scottish artist based in Edinburgh, Scotland. He has lived and worked in Barcelona, Spain and London, exhibiting his artwork throughout the UK. Over the years his work has combined drawing, painting, stone carving, photography and installation.
